Simulated Zr diffraction pattern

This is a stereographic projection of a zirconium electron backscatter diffraction pattern, created using Dynamics. The <c> axis of the HCP unit cell points out of the centre of the page. The ring around the edge is the basal plane reflection. You can clearly see the six-fold rotation axis and many other symmetry operators found in alpha HCP crystals. Simulated diffraction patterns let us test new software algorithms, particularly for high resolution EBSD developments.
